| The freedom of trekking in Hungary | |
You walk along excellently marked paths, with signage all along the trails as well as wooden signs indicating direction and distances. Our routes lead you over easy, sometimes rocky terrain, modest passages and saddles. They do not present any technical difficulties so you can cover longer distances and see more in a day. Hungarians are generally very hospitable, especially in the countryside you can discover with our walks. But be cautious with the first aperitif - and the good wines that follow; their sweetness and great taste obscure a high alcohol content. Try also the 'palinka', traditional Hungarian brandy, which will make you want to try the local folklore dances. Gastronomy here is far more than the famous goulash - there are many other delicious, copious dishes, and paprika, the national spice, is all-present. For our holidays, we book accommodation in family-run pensions and guesthouses that offer an atmosphere much more friendly than classical hotels can. The lady of the house serves you the breakfast of eggs, cold meats, sausages and everything that goes with a hearty breakfast. And maybe you will even get a glass of typical honey-brandy from the landlord to go with the breakfast. For those who choose a guided trip, your leader will do everything to show you the country, its history and culture. Do not ever tell a Hungarian that Hungary is an East-European country - they will never forgive it. You will be surprised by the pride in them that used to manifest itself in the conquering years of this nation, but lives on in the pride for their roots and their habit of going on and of constant development. | |
