Transdanubia
Transdanubia means "on the other side of the Danube", but which side are we talking about?
The Romans called Transdanubia the left bank, all that was beyond their border, but now when we talk about Transdanubia, we think about the right bank because the ancestors of Hungarians came from the other side of the Urals.

Southern Transdanubia
It is located between the Balaton, the Danube and the Drava river. You will discover magnificent intact forests, large plain areas and numerous hills surrounded by valleys. This former province of the Roman Empire is rich in historical monuments, including the early Christian cemetery of Pécs which is classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Natural beauty, pleasant climate and pure air make this region an ideal place for hikers.

Western Transdanubia
This region, dotted with hills and valleys, bordering Slovenia and Austria, gathers the cities that have the highest amount of historical monuments, which resisted the Mongol and Turkish invasions. The Pannonhalma Abbey, the cities of Sopron and Kőszeg are the most famous touristical sites. Many opportunities for active holiday makers such as excursions on the water and magnificent bike tours. Lovers of food and good wine will not regret tasting local wines available in ancestral caves.

Central Transdanubia
This area extends from Budapest to the North of Lake Balaton and from the Danube to the Slovak border. All the country's diversity is reflected in this region: the royal cities, parks and gardens inviting walkers, mountain areas, swallow lakes and world-famous local porcelain.
