Smooth water, huge bays, backwaters and islands, rich fish and wild stock-this is Lake Tisza.
Lake Tisza also known as Kisköre Reservoir, is the largest artificial lake in Hungary. It is located at the south eastern edge of Heves county.
As part of the ongoing Tisza River flood control project, it was built in 1973. Its filling was finished in the 1990s, resulting a 127 km²lake. The lake is 27 km in length, with an average depth of 1.3 m and a maximum depth of 17 m; it contains 16 small islands and ten water channels.
Tourist infrastructure has been developed on the reservoir and the government has designated it an official tourism destination. The shallow water areas, which warm upeasily, are suitable for bathing. Abádszalók The deeper parts are for water sports such as sailing, water skiing and surfing. Lake Tisza is also the only Lake in Europe where you can speed around by powerboatand jet-ski. Along the riverbank (approximately 50 miles) there are recreation areas, open-air baths, camp-sites and places to hire equipment.
The lake has a new local ecology with a diversity of birds, plants, and animals.
The Bird Nature Reserve of Lake Tisza
Offering splendours by the thousand Lake Tisza is most willing to reveal its hidden treasures and unrivalled assets to those who would approach them by water. The bird reserve located in the Tiszavalk inlet at the north of the lake is a rigorously protected natural resource entered on the list of internationally recognised waterfowl habitats and it is also part of the Hortobágy National Park which was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
